‘GoI has violated international law’

Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): A top functionary of the NSCN (IM) allegedly abducted by intelligence officials last week from Kathmandu Airport is reportedly being held at an undisclosed location in Delhi.  A senior official of the NSCN (IM) said Nignkham Shimray alias Anthony Shing, “head of foreign affairs” of the group, is being ‘held captive at an undisclosed location in Delhi’ after he was ‘abducted by Indian intelligence officials’ at Kathmandu Airport. “Government of India has violated international law and its own law and constitution by abducting our member from another country and not giving him right to consult his lawyer,” the official stated. He went on to add that the Indian government has so far failed to inform Shimaray’s family members or reveal his whereabouts, and whether he was safe or otherwise.

“This is also a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement between the NSCN and GoI. GoI is not supposed to target somebody who is a member of our organization or detain him illegally,” the senior NSCN official said. It was further stated that although the NSCN (IM) had requested the Indian Government to let known the whereabouts and condition of Shimray, their reply was “after sometime.” “This is totally unacceptable. If India do not want to keep her words, how can they expect Nagas to keep their words,” he added.
