Government doctors ‘absconding’ in Tuensang

DIMAPUR, JAN 27 (MExN): A joint memorandum submitted by various NGOs and public interest groups of Tuensang district to the Minister Health & Family Welfare has come out with the disclosure that except for three doctors, the others appointed by the government are “absconding” from their responsibilities. “We are pained to bring to your attention that only three doctors namely Dr Tenn Ao, ASI and Dr Toshi Ao (AIDS) ART and Dr Pangjung Sangtam, Gynae Specialist is manning the 100 bedded Tuensang Civil Hospital”, stated the joint memorandum. It was informed that emergency duty was being performed by a single doctor whereas the remaining doctors are willfully neglecting their duties by being absent from their services since their joining.

“Owing to disregard by the designated doctors, Dr Toshi Ao, ART, AIDS who has nothing to do with the civil hospital is contributing his yeomen service for which, we are appreciative of his concern”, the memorandum acknowledged.

Pointing out that like any health centre, Tuensang Civil Hospital is also in need of a medical specialist, a Pediatric specialist and an ENT specialist, the memorandum fervently appealed to the Minister to consider the matter with all seriousness.

The Tuensang public also asked the minister to take necessary steps to see that dereliction of duty is checked within fifteen days from the date of submission of this memorandum failing which it would be compelled to resort to mass agitation in order to retain what it termed as “our basic Human Rights”.
