DIMAPUR, APRIL 28 (MExN): The Memei Hoho, the apex public organization of the Mao Naga tribe has in a memorandum submitted to the Union Minister of Shipping, Surface Transport and Highways, stated that the PWD, Manipur and 15 BRTF Border Road Organization has disowned NH 39 which lies between the starting point of PWD NH 39, Division Number 1, Manipur (235.800 Kms) and the end point of the 89 RCC, 15 BRTF (236.000 Kms). The road needs immediate rising of the height of the depressed level in one stretch and Water Bound Macadam (WBM) and asphaling in two depression portions since the last couple of years stated K.Adani Choro, President Memei Hoho in the memorandum.
The local youths, in the interest of the public use to repair the road from time to time and collect work money from the hundred of vehicles that crosses the road to the consternation of the public as if the road is not in the purview of the government stated the memorandum.
The Memei Hoho in another memorandum to the Chief Engineer, Project Sewak C/o 99 APO has expressed great displeasure on the untouched depression works between 212.370 Kms to 235.880 Kms (Mao Gate to Maram) which they stated causes great inconveniences to the Mao Maram passengers and to hundreds of other vehicles passing this portion of the road for alleged failure to supply coarse sand for sand blanketing. Pointing out that such supplies can be served best by local contractors, the Memei Hoho has expressed displeasure not giving notice of inviting tenders to the SDO (C) Mao Maram, Tadubi or to the Town Committee of Mao Gate or Maram for uncalled reason and thereby undermining the interests of the local contractors.
The Memei Hoho has therefore, requested the Chief Engineer to know whether the sand requirement be made to supply by the local contractors in view of the fast approach of the monsoon season.
