As campaigns rage on for the bye-election to the vacant assembly seat in 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly Constituency, the Congress today launched an attack against the PDA government, listing out the latter’s ‘failures’ in the last 3 years.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Office at Kiphire town, Nagaland Pradesh congress Committee President K Therie took a jibe at the PDA government’s ‘Change is coming’ slogan stating “We have seen what is happening. PDA government had promised that change is coming but today, virtually there is no road in Kiphire as the government has abandoned Kiphire district.”
This bye-election has become very important for the future of Nagaland, to teach government a lesson, he added.
Stating that good roads are a lifeline for the people Therie said “Ministers are travelling up and down so if they have any concern for the people they should have discussed it at the cabinet level to improve the road conditions but what we see is that only their personal wealth is getting increased and not the roads.”
Therie, who has been in Kiphire campaigning for Congress candidate Khaseo Anar, claimed that among the five candidates in the fray, Congress party is the only party with a defined election manifesto and commitment.
Stating that unlike other states and other democratic nations, “we are just voting for money when people should be voting for issue, defined objectives,” Therie said that voters should be educated on these matters ‘changing power from one corrupt hand to another corrupt hand cannot make any changes.’
The Congress President expressed hope that Anar will come out with flying colours, stating that given the opportunity, the party would experiment and fulfill election manifesto.
“Once Congress candidate is elected he will be the sole representative in the state assembly which will change the political dynamic by infusing Congress ideology in days to come,” he added.
In matter of political solution Therie claimed that PDA government ‘does not have any idea’ as it is only the Congress that is speaking for the people of Nagaland. He also said that the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) has been in existence for quite some time, and did nothing but say ‘early solution,’ without any agenda for the stakeholders.
Meanwhile Nagaland Congress Youth Wing President Vilhousielie Kengurüse said that crores of money have been pumped in for skill development but it has not reached the grassroots.
He alleged that PMEGP today in Nagaland has become ‘Personal Employment Generation Program’ instead of ‘Prime Minister Employment Generation Program’ for which Congress has filed a case with the Lokayukta and will pursue it till justice is done to the youths of Nagaland.
He also questioned why the SARFAESI Act 2002 has not been implemented in Nagaland and urged upon the government to call a special assembly session and introduce the Act.
