
Dimapur, May 1 (MExN): Nagaland and Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Sunday led the state in extending Moatsü greetings to the Ao people of Nagaland.
“Moatsü is a celebration after the seeds have been sown in the fields. It is a period of recreation after the strenuous activities of clearing fields, burning jungles, sowing seeds, cleaning up the wells and, repair and construction of houses,” the Governor stated in his message.
He said that the festival is marked by vigorous songs, dances, feast and merrymaking and also a time to celebrate the strong community bonding and carry on the centuries-old traditional legacy. On the occasion, he wished for good health, peace and happy celebrations.
DY CM: Deputy Chief Minister and BLP leader Y Patton also greeted the Aos, stating that the community has always been known for preserving their rich cultural heritage in this fast changing world and the same goes with their festivals. “A couple of years have passed without proper celebrations due to the pandemic. This year I believe that it will be celebrated with grandeur,” Patton stated, while extending wishes on behalf of the state BJP legislators.
NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi): The NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi) while conveying greetings stated that Moatsü or Moatsü Mong is the major festival of the Ao Naga tribe.
Moatsü festival is a binding festival celebrated after the sowing season is over. The festival is celebrated with singing and dancing both by the men and women folk of the community in traditional attires, it said in a message issued through its MIP.
“May the festive occasions bring good tidings and prosperity to our Ao brothers and sisters so that they may continue to be the torchbearers and pioneers in many fields, and to instill a sense of responsibilities to other fellow Nagas,” it added.
