In an attempt to resolve the impasse unfurling in Shamator town, the Government of Nagaland has now decided to ‘disallow’ the proposed Yimchunger Akheru Arehako’s (YAA) Golden Jubilee to be held at Shamator Hq from January 7-10, 2016. However, the YAA can hold their Jubilee at a place ‘free of controversy.’
The Office of the Commissioner to the Government of Nagaland has sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang on January 2 conveying the “decision of the State Cabinet” received vide Home Department letter No. GAB-II/KPE/28/2015 (Vol-II), dated January 2, 2016 “disallowing” the proposed YAA Golden Jubilee at Shamator Hq.
As per the letter, a copy of which is with The Morung Express, the Commissioner’s Office has asked the DC Tuensang to inform the YAA of the State decision, with reference to their letter no. YAA/ADM-SMTR/APP-01/2015-16, dated November 10, 2015.
Further, in this regard, the DC has been requested to take “all necessary measures to enforce the decision of the State Cabinet and also take steps to prevent any untoward incidents.” The DC Tuensang has confirmed to The Morung Express that he has received the information on the morning of January 2, and steps will be taken accordingly.
While corroborating the decision, Home Commissioner to the Government of Nagaland informed that “The YAA Golden Jubilee has not been banned per se. The YAA can hold their Golden Jubilee at any place which is free from dispute/controversy.”
It may be mentioned that prohibitory orders were promulgated by the Tuensang district administration under Section 144 CrPC, since December 21 last, proscribing any person(s) from carrying arms in any procession or organisation, or holding or taking part in any mass drill or mass training with arms under Shamator Sub Division for a period of three months.
Tikhir students call for indefinite strike on NH-202
The Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU) has, in the meantime, called for an “indefinite youth strike” from 6:00 am of January 3. The strike will begin to be enforced from the NH-202 Kiphire-Tuensang road at Anatongre, Kiphire.
“The strike is purely on democratic basis demanding justice and rights,” stated the TSU in a press release. It also noted that the strike is “against the failure” of the Government for not adhering to points mentioned by it in a memorandum submitted to the State Government in March 2015.
When asked if the TSU is aware of the State Cabinet decision, the TSU President, while speaking on the phone, stated that the TSU has received no message from the State Government till now. “If we receive direct information about our demands having been met, we will call off the agitation immediately,” he maintained.
