Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): Chief Secretary Lalthara has informed the deputy commissioners and additional deputy commissioners to be more cautious while issuing scheduled tribe, indigenous inhabitation and backward tribe certificates. In a memorandum received here stated that it has been observed that certain District Administration are issuing “without proper verification and in some cases tribe certificates are issued in the name of tribes not listed in the recognised tribe of the state”.
It stated to meticulously verify the genuineness of the claim before issue of such certificates and to see that children of non-Naga father as well as non-Naga children adopted by Naga parents etc should not be given scheduled tribe or indigenous inhabitation or backward tribe certificates.
Also, indigenous inhabitation or backward tribe certificates are to be issued only to the names of the 14 recognised Naga tribes. For example, those people “who claim to be Tikhir tribe”, the indigenous inhabitation or backward tribe certificates “should mention only ‘Yimchunger’ as the tribe name”. “Since Tikhir tribe is yet to be recognised by the State Government, it should not be mentioned in the certificate even within a bracket as this creates unwanted confusions,” it stated.
