Govt school students achievers honoured in HSLC &HSSLC 2026

The Directorate of School Education, Nagaland today honoured the achievers of the government school students in the HSLC & HSSLC Examinations 2026.

During a felicitation for awardees of “Government School Students’ Meritorious Award” programme on June 18, Nagaland School Education Advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome presented the award to each top 3 government school students in HSLC 2026, HSSLC (Arts) 2026, HSSLC (Commerce) 2026 and HSSLC (Science) 2026 including 22 government schools for securing 100% pass percentage in the HSLC and HSSLC examination.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yhome maintained that the government schools had shown significant improvement and are now at par with private schools.

Congratulating the awardees, he said that they (Achievers) had emerged as the best performers among their batch and had made the department proud.

In term of the achievement of government schools in the board examination (NBSE 2026), Dr Yhome made a special mention of Sreeniti Mahapatra for securing Top 19 among the 80 rank holders in HSLC, Pooja Bharti, Top 7 (HSSLC- Arts) and Moaakum T Longkumer, Top 10 (HSSLC-Science.)

He also acknowledged the achievements of the 22 government schools that recorded a 100% pass percentage in the HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2026.

“In HSSLC (Commerce), we are doing better than private schools. In term of Arts stream, we have enrolment which is more or less becoming similar with the private schools,” he said. “More achievements, more success will come in the years to come,” he said.

Stating that government schools have been strengthening the human capital in every aspect, he said “We have our government schools where private schools cannot enter. We have government school everywhere and in all the villages,” Dr Yhome said. Further, he said that the department is working hard to improve the school ecosystem.

‘Govt committed to strengthening education system’
“Today we have gathered here to celebrate  academic excellence , perseverance, dedication and the remarkable achievements of our students  who have  brought pride and distinction to their schools, families and the state,” said Shashank Pratap Singh, Principal Director, School Education, Nagaland.

This occasion is not merely about recognising high academic performance, it is also about appreciating the hard work, discipline, determination and resilience demonstrated by our students in their pursuit of excellence, he said adding that their achievements stand as an inspiration to thousands young learners across Nagaland and “reaffirm our collective belief that quality education can transform lives and build a brighter future for our state.”

He said that the Government of Nagaland remained committed to strengthening the education system through improved educational infrastructure, enhanced teacher capacity-building programmes, and student support initiatives to ensure that every learner had access to quality education and opportunities for excellence.

In congratulatory message, Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary for School Education & SCERT said that achievements were the result of determination and perseverance and also congratulated school heads, teachers, and all stakeholders who had contributed to success of the students.

Sreeniti Mahapatra, Pooja Bharti and Moaakum T. Longkumer shared their experiences and their successful journey of academic pursuit in government school.

Uno K. Dolie, Headmistress, Govt High School Maova and Imkongsenla Sangtam, Principal, PM Shri Govt Higher Secondary School, Thangjam also shared the best practices of the respective institution.

Earlier, Special songs were presented by GHS Midland and GHSS, Viswema.

The programme was chaired by Kikruneinuo Liezietsu while Emilo Patton, District Education Officer Kohima invoked God’s blessings. Vote of thanks was proposed by Razouseyi Vese, Director, School Education.

Vidyadhan Scholarship Programme
During the programme, Balarihun Lyngkhoi, Programme Associate, Sarojini Damodaran Foundation, Bangalore highlighted the Vidhyadhan Scholarship programme for government school students of Nagaland.

The Vidyadhan Scholarship supports meritorious students from government schools belonging to economically disadvantaged families.

Under the scholarship, selected students in Classes XI and XII receive financial assistance till graduation with financial assistance ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 75,000 per year depending on the course pursued. Beneficiaries also receive career counselling, mentorship, soft-skills training, and employability workshops.
