Kohima | May 14 : Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Kuzholuzo Nienu (Azo) on Friday said the state government was pursuing for the establishment of medical college in the state. Speaking at the annual general conference cum continuing medical education programme of the Nagaland in-service Doctor’s Association (NIDA) at Hotel Japfu on Friday, the minister exhorted the doctors to take care as a passion to learn more about medicines, remedies etc. The Minister also opined that good counseling towards the patients solves half of the problem and encouraged the doctors to be considerate towards their clients/patients to ensure delivery of better health care.
Referring to the memorandum submitted by the NIDA with regard to establishment of Medical College in the state, the minister stated that the state government was sincerely pursuing for the same and further informed about the meeting of Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio with the prime minister and finance minister of India in this regard. Azo also informed about the direction given by the Chief Minister for taking up of the project under a special package. The Minister also said that post creation for 80 doctors are in the pipe-line.
With regard to the implementation of Risk Allowance, Azo informed the doctors that the government has asked the Department to specify as to who should come under this category, Azo said that it has been incorporated in the Revision of Pay. On the issue of transfer and posting, the minister said that a systematic way of transfer and posting was in the pipeline.
Chief Secretary Lalthara IAS who graced the occasion as the guest of honour described doctors and teachers profession as honourable and viewed that their profession was a mission in itself.
Emphasizing on the importance of continuing education the Chief Secretary said that upgradation of skills and knowledge id a must. He regretted that most of the government departments do not have the concept of continuing education and said education is not only earning a degree but requires continuous education. He expressed happiness to the NIDA for giving due importance in the area of continuing Medical Education programme. While assuring that NIDA that he has taken note of their memorandum the CS asked the NIDA to make a stand and classify (those who want or don’t want to practice) with regard to the non-practicing allowance.
MLA and Advisor Music Task Force and Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries, Dr. Nicky Kire, who was also present during the inaugural session, lauded the recipients of the NIDA Excellence Awardees, and suggested that such recognition should be included in their ACRs. He also observed that many doctors render selfless services in the rural areas, which mostly goes un-recognised and suggested that deserving doctors should also be recognised for Governor’s Award and requested the concerned authority to give a thought an this matter.
Dr. H. Hotokhu Chishi, President NIDA in his presidential address, reminded the gathering of doctors on the enormous obligation to fulfill their commitment, to the expectation of the people.
“We are the few fortunate human being commissioned by God and Science to watch over the health of other human beings. We are in this noble job by choice and subscribed to the “Hippocrates oath” by will and authorized by the government to touch, cleanse and alleviate the sufferings of mankind beyond boundaries” he remained. He congratulated these doctors rendering their services to the people residing in the most remote and difficult places and thanked them for raising the banner of the association and the profession high and lofty in their corner of existence. To those who were not performing well, the NIDA President appealed to them to revisit their earlier commitment. “A time has come when association shall not come to rescue those who have gone too far beyond willingly”’ he cautioned.
Dr. H. Hotokhu Chishi further appealed to all the public leaders at all levels to appreciate and understand the reality of working situation of the doctors “issues of Health should not be left to the department of Health & Family Welfare alone. Delivery is our subject, but the support to the delivery system is the collective responsibility of every citizen,” he viewed. He called upon the doctors to re-dedicate themselves to the service of the people and concluded his prelude with a quotation by Witold Rybezynski “the most beautiful house in the world is the one that you build yourself.” We are indeed building the health of our people and it should be made most beautiful to ourselves, observed Dr. H. Hotokhu Chishi.
Earlier the chief guest and the guest of honour presented the NIDA 2010 Rural Service Excellence Award to Dr. Tiakumzuk Sangtam, working in Longkhim PHC under Tuensang district and Dr. Neilasakho, Working in Ntuma PHC under Peren District. During the programme a minute silence was observed a mark of respect to the 10 (ten) Doctors members of NIDA, who passed away during 2009 and 2010. Rev. Dr. Anjo Keikung said the invocation, while Dr. Neikhrielie proposed the vote of thanks and the programme was chaired by Dr. Khanlo Magh.
