Govt’s policy: To continue developmental works

Phek, June 11 (DIPR): The monthly meeting of the Phek District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) was held on June 10 in its conference hall chaired by chairman Parliamentary Secretary, Yitachu. Welcoming all the members present, the chairman congratulated MLA Deo Nukhu for his success in the recent by-elections from 17th Chizami.

MLA Nukhu also addressed the board members and said that the government’s policy is to try to continue  developmental works, especially in the rural areas. Since Phek district is lagging behind in the road and communication sector, he assured that the government would give special emphasis to it. He  opined that once  road communications are complete, Phek district can become a developed district. He requested all the members to render joint efforts and cooperation to improve  all the sectors.

As entrusted by the board in the last meeting, the Land Resources department presented their departmental activities. Regarding schemes under the Border Area Development Program and Under Developed Area Programs for the year 2009-10 at 20th Meluri A/C, as  there was no duplication, the house agreed to approve the same for forwarding to the government.

The house further deliberated in detail the grant-in-aid to schools, and agreed to recommend the following schools: Woodland Christian School at Pfütsero, Bethel School, Porba, Living Christian School, Zuketsa, Eastern Mission School, Thetsumi, Rising School, Mesulumi, Baptist Mission School, Phusachodu, St. Joseph School, Zhavame, Peace Centre School, Sakraba, St. Peter’s School, Kikruma, Mt. Kahu Christian School, Kezhakeno, Royal Foundation School, Phek, Christian Model School, Dzulha, Seeding School, Yoruba village, Little Star School, Dzulha, and Baptist School at K. Bawe. Eastern Christian High School, Chozouba, and Kiddies Corner School, Phek, could not be considered due to incomplete documents and was deferred for the next meeting. The proposal for opening of  St. Xaxier’s School at Chozuba was also deferred for the next meeting due to incomplete documents.

Financial assistance for construction of a resting shed at Khalutu was discussed and decided that the proposal would be taken up by DC Phek with PD Phek (DRDA). The board, after examining the application for financial assistance for tree plantation around Phek town on World Environment Day on June 6, viewed that it was a good programme, but as  there was no specific fund for the purpose it was not possible to give financial assistance. The board, however, decided to allocate an amount of rupees three lakhs, i.e., rupees one lakh for Phek Hq. and rupees one lakh each for the other 4 subdivisions covering Meluri, Chozouba, Pfütsero and Chizami, under LADF during 2009-10 under a common pool, for tree plantation.

The board also entrusted the Medical and Horticulture departments to present their departmental activities in the next DPDB meeting. Irregularity of some heads of offices in attending the DPDB meeting was viewed seriously and it was decided to serve an ‘explanation call’  to those members absenting without prior information and leave application.
