Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): The Assam Rifles have arrested a Brigadier and two other cadres of the GPRN/NSCN. According to a defence press release, the troops of the AR along with representative of NIA initiated a mobile vehicle check post in Zubza on January 23 during which it intercepted a Fortuner where the three were travelling.
The AR identified the three as Brigadier Aheto H Chophy, Sergeant Witti Marak and Mughahoto Sumi.
The recoveries included one AK 56 rifle with 55 live rounds, one 9mm pistol with 30 live rounds, one M-20 pistol with 24 live rounds, sixty seven live rounds of .22 ammunition and Rs. 1,32,320 in cash, 81 bottles of assorted liquor, seven mobile phones and incriminating documents.
A non-bailable warrant was issued against the individual in an NIA case No RC 03/2013/NIA/GUW pertaining to criminal conspiracy for misappropriation of government arms and ammunition belonging to Zunehboto DEF, the release added.
