DIMAPUR, May 11 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) on Monday issued a public notification warning against unauthorised collection of taxes and levies in the name of “Unification” in various commercial centres and regional areas.
In a statement issued through its Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the organisation, under the leadership of president Gen (Retd) MB Neokpao Konyak and Ato Kilonser Alezo Venuh, said it had repeatedly clarified to the Naga public that there exists only one Naga nationalist organisation functioning under the nomenclature “Unification”.
The organisation said it had expected that any ambiguity or misunderstanding regarding the matter had already been dispelled among all sections of society.
However, despite repeated clarifications, it said it had recently received several credible reports from dependable sources indicating that certain “unscrupulous individuals and groups” were collecting taxes and levies in the name of “Unification”.
Likewise, it said such activities were entirely unauthorised, misleading and constituted a direct misuse of the organisation’s name and authority.
“In view of these developments, the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) sternly cautions all individuals or organisations against engaging in any form of collection under its name without proper authentication,” the statement said.
It further reiterated that any tax paid without proper verification would be at the payer’s “own risk and responsibility”.
The organisation advised the public to remain vigilant and immediately verify the authenticity of any such demand by consulting or contacting the respective RAOs, Town Command or Regional Command.
It also warned that any individual or entity found deliberately misrepresenting the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo), either to exploit its name for personal gain or to tarnish its image, would be held solely accountable for any adverse consequences arising from such acts.
