GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) denies surrender claims

Kohima, August 22 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) has rejected reports of the alleged surrender of two Naga youths in Zunheboto, terming it “totally baseless and unfounded,” while stating that that the concept of surrender does not exist in the Naga movement.

In a press statement issued by its MIP, the group said: “The word ‘Surrender’ does not mean giving up our socio-economic and political rights alone; it literally means surrendering everything, including our body and soul, at the mercy of our adversary.”

The GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) said it wished to make it clear to that the “word ‘surrender’ can never be found in the dictionary of the Nagas.”

It further maintained that since the inception of the Naga revolutionary movement, “not a single Naga patriot—whether from the civil set-up or the military wing—has ever laid down their spirit of nationalism at the feet of the adversary.” Instead, it said, Naga patriots would rather “choose the freedom of listening to the whistling winds of their countryside, the chirping of birds, and take pleasure in the serene beauty of their mountains than enjoy the so-called luxurious amenities of Indian resorts bound by regulated terms and conditions.”

On the reported “surrender” at Zunheboto Police Station, it clarified that it has never allotted Army Numbers to civil workers. It said the names mentioned in viral social media reports — Puhovi, Raju Peyu (Army No. 20892) and Inalho (Army No. 20058) — “is totally baseless and unfounded.”

“Whether or not they are affiliated to any other groups could not be confirmed; however, there is no record of enrollment of the aforementioned names in the history of the Naga Army, GPRN/NSCN,” the statement added.

It further issued cautioned that “any deliberate attempt to tarnish its image, or any effort to sabotage the prevailing peace and harmony with malicious intent, will under no circumstances be tolerated in future.”
