GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) extends ceasefire with GoI

Urges early settlement of  Indo-Naga Pol Issue

Dimapur, April 10 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) on April 10 announced the extension of its ceasefire agreement with the Government of India for one year, while pressing New Delhi to expedite the resolution of the long-pending Indo-Naga political issue.

The ceasefire, which was due to expire on April 28, 2026, has been extended until April 27, 2027, following a round of talks held in New Delhi on April 10, 2026 between a five-member GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) delegation and a representative of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to a press release issued by the organisation’s MIP, the Government of India had extended an official invitation on March 25, 2026 for deliberations on the renewal of the agreement.

The delegation, “authorised by the competent authority”, was led by Supervisor Lhokuto Chishi and included Secretary Kitoho Tuccu and members Koitau Phom, Menlem Konyak and Kakheho Chishi.

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Niraj Kumar Bansod represented the Government of India at the talks, which were described as “cordial and constructive.”

While welcoming the ceasefire extension, the organisation made clear that successive renewals alone could not be regarded as meaningful progress toward lasting peace.

“The mere prolongation of such agreements cannot, under any circumstances, be construed as a substantive achievement in securing lasting peace, harmony, and tranquillity,” the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) said. It expressed dissatisfaction over what it termed “undue delay” by the Government of India in proceeding towards the formal conclusion and implementation of the “Agreed Position,” which was reached after prolonged and earnest negotiations reflecting the collective aspirations of the Naga people.

It further urged the GoI to expedite the process of formalisation and implementation of the agreement at the “earliest possible juncture,” and cautioning that continued delay risked eroding the confidence and trust of both the organisation and the wider Naga people in the Centre's sincerity.

The group underscored the importance of “timely and decisive action” to uphold the spirit of the agreement and foster enduring peace in the region.
