GPRN/NSCN on Burma Camp arrests By Assam Rifles

GPRN/NSCN is constrained to respond to the news item which appeared in the local dailies on 25th May 2009. The reported rescue of the so called two businessmen by AR from Burma Camp is completely one sided which is nothing but self glorification with exaggerated fallacy.

It is to be noted that the two individuals namely, Umesh Singh and Rajiv Soni were arrested and detained for indulging in illegal supply of liquor and other abusive substances in connivance with anti-social elements in Dimapur. They were actively assisting and abetting criminal activities in Nagaland through illegal business which is against the policy of GPRN/NSCN. Their arrest and detention was a result of their failure to respect the people’s sentiment. The issue of extortion, therefore, does not arise.

The action of the Assam rifles is unwarranted and uncalled for. GPRN/NSCN demands AR to immediately release the arrested cadres and hand over the seized arms as they are attached with CFSB Identity card holder under the agreed Cease Fire rules between the two entities. Despite the irresponsible action of the Assam Rifles, GPRN/NSCN shall continue to uphold the political and social values that it stands for. Such hasty actions of Assam Rifles shall not deter GPRN/NSCN from confronting Anti-social elements.

GPRN/NSCN also condemns the assassination attempt on its Dimapur Town Commander by IM gang on 26th May 2009. The enemies first arrested his body guard at gunpoint near Plaza bakery and after making him a human shied, fired at the officer who promptly took evasive action. In retaliation, one of the killers was fatally shot. It was also a miraculous escape for the bodyguard whom the assailants had captured. Taking advantage of the chaotic moment he freed himself from the assailants grip and escaped.

The intention of the enemies is to terrorize the Naga people by creating situations as often as possible. Despite the obstacles and hurdles created by enemies on a daily basis, GPRN/NSCN’s co-operation with the Hohos and Civil Societies to bring reconciliation and unity among the Nagas will continue undaunted.
