ACAUT questions why police is ‘shielding’ name of culprits
• ‘Naga public has every right to know the truth so that the issue can be dealt with’
• Throwing of grenades at civilians or civilian populated areas is “an act of terrorism”
DIMAPUR, APRIL 24 (MExN): The Against Corruption And Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland, in the face of numerous grenade attacks in the town, has asked the Dimapur police why it is “shielding the names of the culprits or the organizations” behind the attacks.
“It is open knowledge that the police know the identity of the persons or atleast the organisations orchestrating these attacks, yet, it prefers to keep mum,” stated the ACAUT Nagaland’s media cell in a press release today. It quoted the example of the first grenade attack in GS road that killed a shopkeeper and injured another, the second lobbed at a businessman’s house which failed to explode, a third planted at Jasokie Complex to intimidate businessmen, and the latest hurled on April 22, injuring one.
“The latest incident of grenade throwing in Dimapur is an example of how the Naga movement is being re-directed towards nefarious activities and personal gains,” stated the ACAUT Nagaland, further reminding the Dimapur police that “If the NPGs are behind such cowardly attacks, then the Naga public has every right to know the truth so that the issue can be dealt with at an appropriate platform.”
The ACAUT Nagaland made clear that throwing of grenades at civilians or civilian populated areas is “an act of terrorism” and it will not hesitate to “expose organisations responsible for such activities.”
In that, it questioned the Nagaland State Government and the Naga political groups whether “the numerous incidences of grenade attacks on civilians with a view intimidate the business community of Nagaland and extort money leading to death and injuries should be viewed as a political problem or a law and order problem?” It also asked if “the different NPGs are ready to condemn these grenade attacks?”
Stating that the police is “duty bound” to release the name of the culprit/s and the organization/s responsible for the grenade attacks, the ACAUT Nagaland maintained that “Unless the Naga public knows the truth every Naga political groups out there is a potential suspect and if this is so the Dimapur police is directly responsible for sullying the image of all the NPGs whilst trying to protect the image of one organisation which is not good for the overall reconciliation process.”
