A GROWING CONSTERNATION (To build is not easy, to destroy not difficult)

Beset with clashes of approaches and policies concerning Naga political issues as well as party affairs in the state, I pen down these few lines once again with a heavy heart, sincerely appealing to all concerned not to neglect the sparks which could ultimately burn down our whole house.

Let us not forget that we are what we are today because we stand on the shoulders of some great past leaders and statesmen only. We all stand today where we are only because we are forgiven on many occasions and accepted by our people as workable people or leaders. Every action or attitude displayed is being closely and constantly watched by our younger people who will learn or emulate in ways unpredictable.

I believe all the past decisions taken or agreements made in the course of our long struggle were done by some leaders who sincerely thought it best at that point of time. All changes or developments, whether we like it or not, were also permitted by God Almighty. If we dwell only on the past differences, how can we move forward? It also behoves the present leaders to extend gestures or attitudes of magnanimity and statesmanship to others and not otherwise (in national as well as state affairs).

Power and chairs are temporary, peoplehood is not. We will live on, God willing. No leader worth the name should behave like a snollygoster. We are Nagas, we are Christians. Any group or party representing the people and nation will always have some elements of opposition or dissention in a democratic set-up (as was in the past, so will it be in the future too).

The size or stature of leadership is measured by the public only (and not by self or ego). Our people can draw their own conclusion on who are tall, who are medium and who are average or common. Hence, we should do away with all kinds of bickering or scuffles amongst ourselves. Any ugly elements which could pollute the atmosphere should and must be nipped in the bud.

Had it not been for the great vision and tremendous sacrifices made by our ancestors and pioneers, we won’t be where and what we are today. Therefore, mustn’t we endeavour to provide qualities of true leadership to our children too? All our tomorrows depend on the types of seeds we sow today. The land is fertile enough. Please plant good seeds.
