Gugu Sekhose releases ballad instrumental titled 'Gone Forever’

Khriekethozo Sekhose, popularly known as Gugu Sekhose, a renowned guitarist from Kohima has released a ballad instrumental piece called 'Gone Forever’ on September 15.  

Gone Forever, according to the composer is a profound piece written with passion, and in loving memory of his late mother and a tribute to all the loved ones who have passed away. “Through the piece, the musician hopes to convey the message of loving the ones close to our hearts,” he states.  

Gugu Sekhose started playing Guitar at a very early age of 7 and has been a passionate guitar player since then. Gugu is also a guitar instructor.  

Gugu is known for his performances with the local band ‘Faded Black’ and on a project band ‘Fifth Note’. He has made appearances as the guest artist in major events such as world renowned guitarist, Neil Zaza’s Master class in Kohima in 2015 and Dimapur in 2016. He has also appeared in Nagaland’s acclaimed Hornbill Festivals with his band ‘The Hornbill Project’ and also performed the opening act for the Swedish band Halloween in 2015 at Hornbill Festival and opening act for platinum selling record Guitarist Kee Marcello, composer and writer a Swedish Musician, Master Class in Kohima. He attended internationally renowned electric guitarist Vinnie Moore Master Class in Dimapur, 2014. He was also an invited artiste to the Raj Bhavan, Kohima on occasions.  

Gugu’s influenced guitarist and whom he look upon are Jason Becker, Yngwie Malmsteen, Guthrie Govan, Paul Gilbert, Marco Sfogli, Joe Pass, Steve Ray Vaughan, Marty Friedman, John Petrucci, Eddie Van Halen, Tosin Abasi, Plini etc. He has being a passionate player of his own genre which are Blues, Jazz, Fusion, Progressive rock, Metal, Gospel Rock etc. Gugu is known for his virtuoso command of the electric guitar due to both his technical ability and proficiency in various styles. He plays gracefully and absolutely nails each approach of technical difficulties, all the while the music sounds natural and thrilling  

Gugu, at first learned the basics of the strings from his elder brother. “Those days, music classes were expensive so I couldn’t proceed in my musical desire. And also due to financial constraint I had to give up”, he stated. But that didn’t stop his passion; he went on collecting music resources from various sides and started to practice. “Music is another hard subject”, he quipped. His passion led him to a hope which came to pass when he went on to take music lessons in Bridge School of Music, Delhi in 2012 and cleared Rock School Grade 3. After which due to some personal issues, he had to take a break and if God’s willing, he is longing to pursue more classes in future too.  

Presently, He is Guitar instructor of Nagaland Adolescent Girl’s Club (NAGC) under Nagaland State Social Welfare Board. He is running a music store, ‘Chromatic Clef’ for rental and sale services in Kohima.
