It is a month or so since the half-dilapidated British era Nagarjan bridge was reopened to all light vehicles purely considering the hardships faced by the public, especially during this festive season of Christmas and New Year with the condition that in the event of any mishap (God forbids), the government will not be held responsible for the lost but at own risk of the users (as per media reports). On the other hand, as the festive season approaches, vehicle traffic is increasing day by day as every motorist prefer to take this shortest route thereby resulting to unbearable traffic jumps. To overcome the hurdle, two important remedial steps are suggested:
1) To control the inflow of vehicles at the entry point at 3rd mile to a limited extent as 70-80% light vehicles coming from Kohima/Chümoukidma area are taking this route to avoid the main highways where 4-lane constructional works are going. This creates heavy traffic jams from Nagarjan B & C Khel till the flyover during the peak hours.
2) Only ‘One-Way Traffic’ from both sides while crossing the already-weakened bridge should be strictly imposed 24x7.
Hoping and praying that immediate action will be taken by the concern authority to save precious lives.
