The handing and taking over of charge of National Helpline for Senior Citizens, Nagaland (Elderline, Nagaland) was held on June 3.
Kohima, June 5 (MExN): The handing and taking over of charge of National Helpline for Senior Citizens, Nagaland (Elderline, Nagaland) from the Good Samaritan Women Society (Implementing Agency) by the Department of Social Welfare was held in the office of National Helpline for Senior Citizens, Nagaland-Kohima on June 3.
The programme was chaired by Kevitsonuo Shuya, Team Leader, Elderline, Nagaland. Temsuienla, Women Pastor, Sangtam Baptist Lithro, Kohima led the invocation, stated a press release issued by Tosheli Zhimomi, Director, Social Welfare Department.
Neithonuo Leigise, Chairman of the Good Samaritan Women Society expressed gratitude towards the Department for assisting the Society in the implementation of Elderline, Nagaland since its inception.
She said that with the signing of MOU, the Department and the implementing Agency have expeditiously setup the Office and recruited employees to operate the Elderline Helpline-14567 in the state of Nagaland.
Leigise shared the achievements of proposal for concession of bus fare for senior citizens which was proved by the Nagaland State Transport Department, proposed Naga Hospital Authority Kohima to create separate ticket counter and Geriatric Ward in Government Hospitals for senior citizens, approached SBI, Kohima to open separate counter for senior citizens with elderly friendly.
Martha R Ritse (IAS), Secretary to Government of Nagaland, Department of Social Welfare thanked the Implementing Agency for the past efforts and achievements. She encouraged the Department henceforth to sensitise more about the scheme at the grassroots level so that elderly people can have easy access to address their grievances. The Secretary handed over a Certificate of Appreciated to the Chairman of Good Samaritan Women Society for their tireless effort in the implementation of National Helpline for Senior Citizens, Nagaland for the past three years (2021-24).
Tosheli Zhimomi, Director, Department of Social Welfare, in her short speech thanked the Good Samaritan Women Society (Implementing Agency) for managing the Elderline, Nagaland for three years (2021-24) despite the global pandemic and irregularity in the flow of fund. She also implored the Good Samaritan Society that the department will be availing its assistance in the implementation of this scheme since they have wide range of knowledge and experiences.
Vote of thanks was pronounced by K Wango Langsym, Deputy Director. The programme was attended by Senior Officers from the Department, members from Senior Citizens Association of Nagaland and members from the Good Samaritan Women Society.
