With the inauguration of around 100 meters hanging bridge today at ‘Sangtong’ by Er Namang Sepong Chang, EAC Kiusum over Zungki River, fourteen villages under Kiusum are now connected to the rest of the world in all seasons. Zungki River is the second largest river in the State.
Congratulating the people of the area for accomplishing the long cherished dream of constructing a bridge over Zungki River, Er Namang said that it is a big day for the people of the area as their dream has been fulfilled and it is because of the co-operation and the support they have rendered to each other. He encouraged them to take active part and extend co-operation in all endeavours.
Calling upon the people gathered Er Namang said, “People in other parts of the globe are thinking of sending people to mars and moon but for us hanging bridge over Zungki is a big achievement and is a historic day for the area which also leaves good example for others.”
He also congratulated the members of the Hanging Bridge Construction Committee for coming up with such structures over the large river collectively without seeking any help from experts which is worth recording and encouraged to go ahead with their good works for the welfare of the people. The chief guest also added that the strength of unity is reflected in their works “when there is no unity, things do not come in the way we dream” and encouraged the gathering to work collectively in all front.
Kiusum area GB association president Mark Murekiu who also spoke on the occasion said that this is a big thing for the people of the area and it is the starting point of development. Being a member of the construction committee he also added that the bridge was constructed in war footing due to the enormous pressure of the people as this is one of the shortest life line of the area.
Giving a report the construction committee chairman Dioto thanked the District Administration Kiphire for allotting funds under 13th finance commission, officers, people of the area and well-wishers for contributing in the construction of the bridge. Others who spoke on the occasion were Litsamong VCC Phelungre village and LK Khumo Public leader.
Interestingly Kiusum Administrative which was established in the year 1987 was placed under Kiphire Administrative circle and was politically placed under 57 AC under Tuensang district making the people to undergo untold suffering in all front.
