Kohima, October 26 (MExN): The Kohima Japukong Senso Telongjem (Kohima Japukong Union) held its Golden Jubilee at Molu Ki, Para Medical Kohima on October 26.
Minister for Higher & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along who graced the occasion as the special guest in his address said that it was a handful of KJST officers and members who had faced a lot of obstacles and hardships 50 years back for the union to celebrate this jubilee. He opined that the most important aspect for each member of KJST union to move forward was to ask God for his wisdom and guidance.
“Our daily workloads and day to day chores should not hinder us from giving a thought about the welfare of one’s fellow people from the Japukong range but should help and work for one another, and for the uplift of KJST to have collective efforts to move forward or the union will remain only as a union,” he stated. The Minister also called upon the union to have visions, wisdom and be alert, as a union without vision cannot move forward.
Along said that Naga society today has become individualistic, we talk about the welfare and upliftments of the Naga society as a whole, but when the specific work or contract is initiated we think only of ourselves and our gains leaving aside the welfare of the societies which is today our biggest worry. He also said that we should be bold and strong to stand for the truth and should be able to accept and admit our mistakes and rectify these blunders which can only bring about a change for our society. Along also lamented that we should do away with the evils that divides clans and villagers and called upon the students to work hard as laziness will not fulfil their dreams, and not give up with failures adding that consistence and persistency should be their motto.
Advisor for Kohima Japukong Senso Telongjem, Dr. Benjongliba Aier who also exhorted the gathering said a quality society is more important than quantity society as people view a society by their good works and services rendered to follow their footsteps and that KJST should be the former society so that others will look up to.
Stressing on the unemployment of youths in our state, he called upon the youths to be engaged in other private sectors as government employment have become quite scanty and more educated unemployed youths are increasing in our state and he also encouraged them go back to the farms as the central government have come up with many good schemes for farmers which could be a good job avenue.
Calling upon the students he said modern gadgets should not hamper their studies and parents should also give proper guidance to their children in this modern computer age. Dr. Aier also exhorted the gathering that jubilee was the time to forgive one another for the wrongs done and live in harmony.
Others who spoke during the occasion also included President Kohima Aor Telongjem, Chiden Yaden, President Japukong Senso Senden, Meren Nokpu and President Kohima Japukongtsur Telongjem, Chubasenla.
