Says State Govt may consider installing CCTVs in inter-state gates
DIMAPUR, JUNE 10 (MExN): The Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court has closed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which was filed to espouse public grievance on collection of illegal taxes at various check gates in Nagaland and also on dual taxation on inter-state goods.
In an order dated June 8, Justice Songkhupchung Serto and Justice Kakheto Sema closed the PIL in view of the Nagaland State Government notification, dated May 19 closing all check gates in the State except for inter-state check gates.
The senior Additional AG, TB Jamir, on behalf of the government, while referring to the notice stated that “the concerns raised by the petitioners have been answered. Hence the PIL has become infructuous.”
Neiteo Koza, appearing as counsel for the petitioner, also submitted that in view of the issuance of the said notice, the concerns raised by the petitioners in the PIL have been answered, “therefore, the PIL may be closed.”
The order meanwhile stated that in order to ensure that no unwanted activities take place, the State Government may consider installing CCTVs in the inter-state check gates.
