HC seeks affidavit on adequacy of blood banks in Nagaland

10 blood banks and 6 storage centres currently functional, submits State

The Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, has directed the Nagaland Health Department to file an affidavit on whether the existing blood banks and storage centres in the State are adequate and easily accessible to the public.

During the hearing, the State submitted that, besides newly established blood banks in Tuensang, Kiphire, Mon and Phek, other existing blood centres are located at:

•    Nagaland Hospital Authority, Kohima

•    Dimapur District Hospital

•    Dr. Imkongliba Memorial Hospital, Mokokchung

•    Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research, Dimapur

•    154 Army General Hospital, Jakhama (Kohima)

•    165 Army Hospital, Rangapahar (Dimapur)

It was also stated that blood storage centres are functioning at:

•    CHC Jalukie, Peren

•    CHC Medziphema, Chümoukedima

•    District Hospital Mon

•    District Hospital Wokha

•    District Hospital Kiphire

•    Hezukhu Memorial District Hospital, Zunheboto

After perusing the submissions, the Bench comprising Justice Devashis Barua and Justice Pranjal Das sought clarification on whether these facilities are sufficient to meet the needs of the people and directed the Health Department to provide a detailed response.

The matter has been listed for further hearing on October 15, 2025.
