Mon, May 1 (MExN): A one-day training programme on Routine Immunisation (RI) was conducted at the DRDA Hall in Mon district on April 30, bringing together medical officers and frontline health workers from across the district.

Participants included community health officers (CHOs), general nursing and midwifery staff (GNMs), auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), block programme managers, district programme managers (DPMs) and ASHA coordinators.

The programme began with an address by District Immunisation Officer (RCH & UIP) Dr Wungyong, who emphasised the need to strengthen routine immunisation services and ensure full coverage for all eligible beneficiaries.

The technical session was led by Dr M A H Azhar, Surveillance Medical Officer, WHO, Mokokchung unit. He highlighted the importance of microplanning in delivering effective immunisation services and said such plans should be prepared biannually to ensure systematic coverage.

Participants were trained on key aspects of RI microplanning, including headcount surveys of pregnant women and children, mapping of sub-centre areas, tracking missed children, session planning, vaccine and logistics estimation, and preparation of workplans and supervision strategies.

A practical session provided hands-on experience in using formats and tools required for effective implementation at the grassroots level.

The training also covered strategies for community engagement, school immunisation, reaching out to dropout children, biomedical waste management and contingency planning.

The Health Department reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every child in the district is immunised against vaccine-preventable diseases through improved planning, capacity building and community participation.

It also appealed to the public to cooperate with health workers to ensure timely vaccination of children.
