Here are some of the readers’ suggestions on what steps the government can take to solve the problem of water scarcity which has become a huge menace in several towns and villages in Nagaland:

•    Implement an improved policy of Rain Water Harvesting through WATSAN or constitute another committee to ensure that Water issue must the in the top priority in both urban and rural planning policy by 2022. 1. Distribute 1000 each water barrel to every household in Nagaland no cash; 2. Encourage harvesting rain water in urban and plain area and judicious use of water in all possible means; 3. Continue awareness program about scientific findings on the ill effects of bore well water consumption.

•    Government can take up rain harvesting project by assisting the people for construction of water tanks/ supply sintex in phase manner with sincerity.

•    Canal: the only option left

•    Ground water recharge system

•    Scientific implementation of Rainwater harvesting is an immediate solution...

•    Practice rain water harvesting.. Roof top water harvesting in towns and cities, construct ponds and water reservoir in villages.
•    Water reservoirs underground, manmade lakes etc

•    One of the best way will be educating the public on water conservation and deforestation by organising small seminars in blocks and villages because without public Government alone cannot establish anything.

•    Rio is the answer

•    Practice conservation of natural rivers.....

•    Stop Jhum cultivation.

•    Less corruption more development?

•    Underground rain water harvesting??

•    Plant more trees and take care of it till it is mature to survive.S trict Prohibition of burning forest. Strictly prohibit hunting. Most importantly be kind and respect nature. Give instead of taking

•    The government is not serious about it or they don't care about the welfare of the people.50 years had gone since our statehood and still the state capital, apart from many towns and villages is suffering from acute water shortages. Where are all the funds for supply of waters in Nagaland???

•    Do something like the "paani bachao" Movement in other states

•    Rain harvesting 2. Constructing water reserve. 3. Functioning of the water department properly. 4. No corruption

•    We can solve this even without the govt. We just need the community coming & working together.

•    Judicious usage of water for domestic purposes and promotion of rain water harvesting at an even greater level.

•    This is not only for the government but we are responsible too. Deforestation, selling natural resources from Village jurisdictions are not done by government but by us. Yes the government need to educate us and it is us to follow that instructions
•    Stop deforestation and random collection of stone from river

•    Stop cutting down big trees

•    Simple, Utilise the fund properly under PHED department.. Construct more water reservoir in ever district and channelized it.  We have Jal Jeevan Mission under jal Shakti ministry, implement the scheme properly. We have employees under PHED department, they should see the problem and solved it. Why are they employed for??? Duuhhhh.....

•    When Ministry is spending 1000 of crore for water supply to the rural area under Jal Jeevan Mission/Jal Shakti Ministry how can we say that there is shortage of water in many places that means the project already implemented and ongoing works are not doing in a proper way.

•    Protect watershed and rejuvenate streams

•    What's the use of suggestions??? When the government is busy making money for themselves.
•    decades back an engineer of our village made rainwater harvesting tanks in all the sectors in our village and it's been serving its purpose since then while the neighbouring villages goes to rivers and nearby water sources in dry seasons, we utilise those stored water from the tanks. Of course, it doesn't 100% suffice the community's need but it does reduces the need to hunt for water in a drastic percentage. Also I'm impressed that @themorungexpress posted this asking for public's opinion.

•    A dam or a modern water collecting system is first and foremost. The Government, village and colony chairman must strike a deal to lay down proper pipelines and also spaces for rainwater harvesting and collection. Educating the public on grey water reuse.

•    Out of the seven states of northeast, Nagaland has become one of the least state in forest coverage. Water preservation is proportional to population of trees; Need to plant more trees and stop unnecessary deforestation irrespective of development. Would be a good add to that increment!
