High prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Kiphire

Kiphire | August 30 : Zisaji Presidency college unit Red Ribbon Club today held an awareness programme on STI/HIV/AIDS & Blood donation at the college auditorium with Dr Keviyani Chucha MO PHC and Dr Kibang District Immunisation officer Kiphire as resource persons.
Giving a presentation, Dr Keviyani who dealt on STI/HIV/AIDS said: “HIV prevailing rate is very high in Kiphire as there are 3.7 per 100 persons infected with HIV/AIDS and asked the rate is alarming and the only solution is prevention.”
Dealing at length on STI Dr Keviyani said: “We have to be faithful with our self and added those persons who have STI have 5 to 10 % more prone to have HIV/AIDS. He also said condom is not the solution and asked the participants that God has a plan for all so live faithfully.”
Dr Kibang DIO who spoke on blood donation call upon the participants to save life by donating blood and at the same time renew the old blood by donating to the person in need. He also said: ‘In normal human body there is usually 5.5 to 6 litres of blood and it will have no side effect by donating blood. Giving detail on classification of blood he also discussed on blood groupings and also added blood is the medium for transporting all essential requirement needed for the body.”
Tia of KpNP+ who also spoke on stigma & discrimination said, HIV doesn’t kill a men but discrimination does, he also call upon the students to put oneself 10-20 years ahead and live also added choice life carefully as life is ‘full of choice’. He also disclosed that there are 197 positive people and 41 are taking ART. Earlier Vice principal welcome the gathering and the program was charied by Program officer RRC ZPC.
