HM assures to re-examine issue of recruitment

Kohima, March 13 (DIPR): Responding to a supplementary query of Tokheho MLA on the 2nd day of the ongoing assembly during question hour, Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen assured to re-examine the issue of recruitment of non-gazetted officers in the Police headquarter.

On the issue of trainees being trained in Dergaon and NEPA (North East Police Academy) the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio observed that Nagaland State has 15 NAP battalions and therefore said that NEPA is not sufficient to accommodate the recruits for training. Therefore we have to send the trainees to Dergaon also, he said. On the issue of recruitment, Rio viewed police as a discipline force who stresses more on physical than knowledge and informed that the Government has authorised PHQ to set up a recruitment Board to conduct interviews. 'The background of service is different from other general recruitment', Rio observed

Earlier, the Home Minister Nagaland while replying to a starred question raised by I. Imkong, MLA said that UBSI and ABSI are sent for basic training to NEPA Shillong and PTC Dergaon after requisition of seats as per requirement. On whether the Police Department has any policy for promotion quota of UBSI, ABSI, ASI, Head Constable/Halvidars, the Home Minister said that there was no promotion quota in the department. He however said that the Department has norms for promotion from lower rank to higher ranks. The quota of UBSI and ASI is 50% direct recruitment and 50% promotion and for ABSI 20% direct recruitment and 80% promotion. The post of Head Constable/Halvidar of IR Battalion are directly appointed through recruitment during initial raising of the Battalion, informed the Home Minister, Imkong L. Imchen.
