Dimapur, December 5 (MExN): A Honey Processing Unit was inaugurated on December 3 at Mima Village under Kohima district by Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, MLA & Chairman of Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB) who was the chief guest at the programme.
The 50 kg capacity honey processing unit was installed under the initiative of Nagaland
Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) and funded by NABARD under the Rural Innovative Fund (RIF) scheme being implemented at Mima village.
NBHM Team Member, Chubala Shilu in a press release informed that the programme was also attended by Vikho-u Yhome, MLA & Advisor IT, H.K Khulu (IAS) Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) & Principal Secretary, Dr U.S Saha, General Manager (GM), NABARD, Mhathung Yanthan Mission Director NBHM and host of other Government officials, Village elders & Council members, Beekeeping community, Bee consultant from Alaska and general public from Mima and adjoining villages.
The chief guest in his speech congratulated the stakeholders and facilitators at the successful commissioning of the processing unit and also expressed happiness to NABARD for coming out in a big way to assist the village. He called upon the village to live up to the name of a ‘Honey village’ by working hard to achieve desired goals. He further appealed the community to be self reliant and to inculcate a strong work culture and do away with the dependency syndrome.
APC in his speech extended his congratulations and called it a ‘Red lettered day’ for Mima village. He said that with the installation of the unit, different players like the Government, Banks and Beekeepers were involved but the main players were the villagers and the beekeepers themselves who should ensure that honey production is raised to desired levels to meet the requirements of the newly installed processing unit.
The GM NABARD in his speech said the bank was proud to be associated with a unique beekeeping tradition as was being practiced at Mima, while urging them to inculcate their unique system with scientific and improved technologies for increased honey production and agricultural productivity.
Short speeches were also delivered by Mhathan Yanthan Mission Director, NBHM and Vilelie Khamo Class 1 contractor & prominent citizen of the village. The programme was chaired by Neilazonuo Terhuja, Team member NBHM, Invocation was pronounced by Rev. Vikiezo Lese, Welcome address by Khriesavilie Khamo, VCC. At the function a report of the Mima Honey bee farming society was delivered by Suse Khamo, while the Mima Women Society presented a Folk tune. Also a special song was performed by Seyievicha Kiso & Friends and vote of thanks was delivered by Zakiekho Ngukha Chairman of the beekeeping society. The programme was followed by a grand fest for all those present.
