Hornbill Fest 2022: Day 3 highlights

Cultural Connect
In the morning session of the third day of the Hornbill Festival ‘Cultural Connect,’ Lt General Jagamohan Singh Sidana Commandant ACEME, Col Commandant Corps EME and his wife graced the function. 

Minister for Tribal Affairs & Higher Education Temjen Imna Along, and Sericulture, Excise, and Minority Affairs Advisor, Zaleo Rio were the hosts for day 3 at Kisama.

During the cultural extravaganza, the following troupes participated: Rengma Cultural troupe-Sukhuki (Folk dance), Kachari Cultural troupe Slemah Dikhawbani (Folk song), Lotha Cultural troupe- Iya Hoi, Holo-Iye (Song of enchantment), Pochuri Cultural troupe-Yaloro Kwhi (Folk song), Ao Cultural troupe- Arr Malu (Tug of War), Sumi (Dimapur Base)-Folk dance while Chakhesang (Kohima Base)-Riwhuphe (War and Headhunting dance).

In the afternoon session, Justice Sanjay Kumar Chief justice Manipur High Court was the special guest. He was accompanied by honoured guest Amrendra Kumar IRS Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Shillong and Lt Gen PC Nair AVSM, YSM, Ph.D Director General Assam Rifles.

Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue, Neiba Kronu, and Advisor Village Guards, Information and Public Relations, S Keoshu were host and co-host respectively.

The following cultural troupes performed: Sumi cultural troupe-Spear Kicking, Zeliang Cultural Troupe-Ahoibe Lim (Falcon dance), Chakhesang Cultural Troupe-Chechukuva (Traditional Game), Angami Cultural Troupe (Mima Village) Seyie Geizo (Mima song & dance), Garo Cultural Troupe-Anseng Rere (Folk song), Kuki Cultural Troupe- Lamkol Lam (Folk dance) and Pochury Cultural Troupe (Kohima Base)-Chie Wochiewo (Indigenous Game).

Catapult Target Competition 
To revive the dying indigenous game, the Department of Tribal Affairs organized the 2nd Edition of the Catapult Target Competition 2022 sponsored by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on December 3.

A total of 18 participants representing the Cultural Troupe of Zeliang, Sumi, Rengma, Pochury, Kachari, Ao, Kuki, and Chakhesang participated in the competition.  

The winners of the competition were Imnasunep Ao, Akumnungchet Ao, and Kamminhao Kuki. They were declared as the winner, first runners-up, and second runners-up respectively, and were awarded cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively along with certificates.

Nagaland for SDGs painting competition
As part of the ‘SDG One Stop Destination’ of the Planning & Coordination Department at Hornbill Festival 2022, the department hosted the painting competition on the theme ‘Nagaland for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’ on December 3. 

The objective of this completion was to visualize SDGs from the lens of Naga culture and heritage. The winners were: first- Chorovelu Ringa, second- Vijendra Singh, and third- Mhonbeni Ngullie. 

The winners were awarded prizes by Nayantara Sasikumar, OSD (Planning) & SDG Nodal Official. 

The department has set up the ‘SDG One Stop Destination’ to disseminate the SDGs innovatively during the Hornbill Festival from December 1-10 at Kisama Heritage Village, near the Food Park. This dedicated SDGs destination has an SDG information desk and activities aligning to SDGs such as quizzes, games, short film screenings, pledges, and much more on all days during the festival.

The theme of all the activities is around the SDGs– the 17 ambitious global goals associated with 169 targets to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all of us by 2030. 

The Government of Nagaland is also working towards localizing and integrating the SDGs. This is yet another effort towards creating more awareness and public participation in the SDGs-oriented action as well as aligning all activities to the SDGs during the Festival period.
