Union Minister For Culture & Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Sunday described Hornbill Festival as a magnificent celebration of the identity and unity of Nagaland’s 17 major tribes.
“It beautifully showcases the heritage, traditions, crafts, textiles, music, cuisines, agricultural wisdom, and warrior spirit that define the Naga way of life,” Shekhawat stated while extending greetings to Nagaland’s Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio and Tourism & Higher Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along, and to the people of Nagaland on the 26th International Hornbill Festival 2025.
“My visit to the Hornbill Festival last year, along with my family, remains one of the most cherished and heart-warming experiences of my public life. The warmth of the Naga people, the vibrancy of the tribes, the music, the dances, and the cultural richness of Kisama made us feel truly connected to the spirit of Nagaland,” he stated.
Shekhawat said that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister and Tourism Minister, “Nagaland has transformed this festival into one of India’s most iconic cultural and tourism experiences.”
He also stated that the expansion of the festival to multiple districts “is a testament to the state’s commitment to inclusive growth, cultural preservation, and community-driven tourism.”
The minister stated that the festival is not only a spectacular cultural showcase but also a strong catalyst for economic opportunity, tourism development, and global cultural exchange.
“Its growing popularity among domestic and international travellers reflects the unparalleled charm of Naga heritage,” he said and congratulated the Government of Nagaland, the Tourism Department, and all participating tribes for their dedication and passion.
“The Hornbill Festival continues to strengthen India’s cultural identity and place Nagaland proudly on the world map,” Shekhawat added.
