The State’s Horticulture Department is in the process of patenting Naga chilli. Source told The Morung Express that the documentation as well as research on Naga chilli is going on a war footing.
The department has already launched the geographical indication of the potential growing areas in Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Zunheboto and Mon districts and the same has been placed on website.
Further, four Solar Drying Units has been designed for Peren, Mon, Kohima and Dimapur. These model projects are meant for retaining the natural colour, aroma, uniformity, size and shape of the chilli, source also said.
Source also stated that the department will focus more on nursery and seedling activities this year, and, for which, an extensive tour to the chilli growing areas are underway.
The department has been planning to go in for a large scale production following the interest shown by the giant Indian Tobacco Company (ITC) to play the role of marketing the chilli produce from the State.
