Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): A team of officials from the Horticulture Department consisting of Dr. N Benjong Aier, Mission Director (HTM), Pawan Kumar, Joint Director (Horticulture) and Dr. Moa Walling, DHO, Phek led by R. Khing, Parliamentary Secretary (Horticulture) is now on an exposure tour to Europe.
A press note issued by Dr. N Benjong Aier, Mission Director (HTM) Innsbruck, Austria stated that the tour is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India (Horticulture Division) under Horticulture Technology Mission.
The team is presently touring Switzerland, Austria and Italy. The officials visited many hi-tech Green houses (Fruit Nurseries and Flowers), Apple orchards, Plum orchards, Vegetable Farms and Cold Chain Supply Systems, etc. The note also mentioned that the officers visited the hi-tech Green House in Interlaken (Switzerland), apple and plum orchards in Luzerne (Switzerland), apple orchard in Austria and the cold chain marketing system run by the Coop’s and the Migro’s Marketing outlets at Interlaken and Luzerne. The topography is mountainous so the people practise Agri-Horti-Dairy farming system adopting farm mechanisation. Fruits, vegetables and products of maize, wheat and dairy are the main food for the people.
