How father-of-the-bride Ralph Lauren consulted Vera Wang on daughter Dylan's wedding dress

He's designed hundreds of wedding dresses in his 40-year career. But for Ralph Lauren, creating a gown for his daughter's big day is the most important commission of his career. So who better to call upon for advice than the grande dame of bridalwear herself, Vera Wang.
According to a close source the two designers have known each other for years, as one of Ms Wang's first jobs was at Ralph Lauren. They told the New York Daily News: 'Vera helped Mr Lauren with the dress. She got her career start at Ralph Lauren and felt very honored to help with Dylan's wedding gown.'
Miss Lauren, 37, will marry hedge fund manager Paul Arrouet at her family's Bedford Estate tomorrow.
And while there will be no guessing games about the designer of her gown, it seems details about the style are still under wraps as the dress is being kept under security guard at Ralph Lauren's New York headquarters. An insider, who has seen the dress says that the gown has a single strap across one shoulder. It is 'fitted and straight' in cut, with 'a little fishtail skirt' and embroidery around the hem.
They added that she would be accessorising her couture creation with a Cartier diamond tiara and earrings, and a 'very long antique lace veil'. Mr Lauren, 71, admitted in an interview with Oprah Winfrey last month that creating the gown was an emotional experience. He said: 'I had to do something that was better than ever before. When you do something for your family or your daughter, I mean it's the only daughter I have - beautiful girl. I want to just give her something that she'd really treasure and give her something that would be really amazing. I want her to feel fantastic.'
It seems he has done well though, as Miss Lauren, who is founder of the Dylan's Candy Bar confectionery company was full of praise for her father's work. She described the gown as 'the most amazing thing because it's really stunning. 'I told my fiancé, "I may sleep in it. I might wear it the next day,"' she added. 'It's really beautiful. I know that every bit of his energy and heart went into making sure that I liked it.'
