MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu on Saturday called for a mandated people’s movement to ban multiple taxation, extortion, threat and intimidation in Nagaland.

Addressing the 29th Senior and 1st Under 15 Wrestling meet 2026 of the Phek Area Wrestling Association (PAWA), Nienu termed it a “wake-up call” for the Naga people. “We need a mandated public movement to ban extortion and multiple taxation,” he reiterated.

“How long can we Nagas continue to live with such unwanted activities happening right under our noses every day,” he said.

The MLA stated that civil society organisations, village councils, area leaders, town councils and colony leaders must discuss the rising issue of multiple taxation.

He claimed that such activities prevent contractors from delivering quality work, led to collapsed businesses and left the government helpless.

‘Therefore, there is a need for a people's movement to have only one faction, one voice, one tax and one demand or else with 31 factions disturbing the peaceful atmosphere every day it has become very difficult for a common man to survive,’ Azo emphasised.

Earlier, PAWA President Chikhozo Chizo delivered the presidential address. The inaugural programme was chaired by PAWA Finance Secretary Er Shekhotso Keyho.
