‘Huge quantity of pineapple and ginger go wasted’

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): A one day seminar cum capacity building programme on Ginger and Pineapple was held on March 7 at ATMA Training Hall, DAO’s Office Dimapur. A press note issued by N. Wetsah DAO & PD (ATMA) Dimapur that the programme was jointly organized by NERAMAC (North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd) and ATMA-Dimapur on PPP mode sponsored by Ministry of Food Processing Industries GOI and facilitated by Jeevan Initiatives.
N. Wetsah, DAO & PD (ATMA) Dimapur addressed the farmers and said that huge quantity of pineapple and ginger is produced in Nagaland and go wasted but due to lack of proper marketing and storage facilities the farmers are facing problems for disposal of their products and therefore DAO requested NERAMAC, Guwahati and EIM, Kolkata people to help farmers community with the available service & facilities including preparation of DPR.
The chief guest Rose Jamir, managing director NIDC mentioned that priority should be focused on the processing sector so that the farmers produce does not go wasted. She said that entrepreneurs should have good linkages. Susmit Mitra, the resource person from Eastern Institute of Management, highlighted about the prospects of fruit industry in the North East. In the Technical session, the resource person Susmit Mitra covered topics on potentials of ginger and pineapple processing and industries in Nagaland, value addition, post harvest managements, marketing, entrepreneurship, constraints in market linkages, strengthening, identification and organizing resources in such a way that the consumers are satisfied which ultimately would lead to successful Agri-business. Over 60 entrepreneurs, APMC members and officials attended the programme.
