HVSU takes ‘strong exception’ on COVID-19 related mismanagement

Tuensang, June 4 (MExN): Hukir Village Students' Union (HVSU) has taken “strong exception” on COVID-19 related mismanagement in respect of Tuensang.

HVSU President Thsanthu Yimchunger and General Secretary Shophukhiung in a press release said that on May 15, a bus carrying returnees from Dimapur reached Tuensang, out of which eight of them were from Hukir Village under Chessore block.

On reaching Tuensang, the returnees were supposed to be further transported to their respective destinations (village). Hukir Village Council had arranged conveyance for deportation of its villagers from Tuensang to Hukir Village, the Union stated.

“However, to our dismay, out of eight returnees four of them were held back and kept for institutional quarantine at Tuensang on account of their travel history to Khatkhati (few Kms away from Dimapur) and the other four were sent off,” HVSU alleged while adding that the “Hukir Village Council was neither apprised nor intimated for necessary action thereby left in total darkness.”

“It is only when Hukir Village Students' Union inquired from the Area Administration, the anomalies unravelled that on May 28, the District Nodal Officer Tuensang had already issued certificate for completion of quarantine period to all those eight returnees,” the Union added.

Taking all these events into account, the HVSU questioned “when four returnees who reached their respective home or destinations since May 15 were never quarantined excepting the remaining four returnees who are further being quarantined still at Village Quarantine Center for 14 more days, on what basis completion certificate was issued?”

In the given circumstances, the HVSU iterates that in the event of any eventuality arising out of this callous mismanagement on the part of the authority, it should be hold responsible.

Further, the Union suggested the people of Tuensang who boarded the same bus on May 15 from Dimapur to receive the report from District Nodal Officer and do the needful. The Union also requested the Deputy Commissioner Tuensang to “intervene and do the needful before things go out of hand.”
