Department of Land Resources played an agent of my success
K. V. Achumi
In the year 1986, an officer of the then Wastelands Department (now Land Resources Department), told me to plant trees if I wanted to be a successful farmer. He used to tell me that his department will be able to make every Naga to become a rich person.
Having motivated me with his words, he provided me with a bagful of teak saplings which I diligently planted in a plot of ancestral land which was lying wasted. I wondered if this stick-like sapling would grown into big trees, and make me rich.
In 2012, I was in need of a considerable amount of money for my daughter’s higher studies. I sold the teak from my plantation, which fetched me an amount of Rs. 10.00 lakhs (Rupees ten lakhs); which I was able to utilize for my daughter’s admission and other requirements for pursuing Technical Education.
Today, my daughter is coming home with the Certificate of Bachelor in Engineering (Civil); with 8.9%. Praise God! I am indebted to the officer who guided me towards this golden path –he is no other than the present HoD of the Department of Land Resources. Long Live Department of Land Resources.
