Medziphema, January 28 (MExN): The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur and ICAR–KVK Kiphire was convened at the ICAR Regional Centre, Medziphema on January 28.

Agriculture Advisor to the Government of Nagaland, Mhathung Yanthan, attended the meeting as the chief guest. The meeting was also attended by Joint Secretary to the Government of Nagaland Limanenla; Director of Agriculture Sanuzo Nienu; Director, ICAR–ATARI Zone VII, A K Mohanty; Director, ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun, Girish Patil S.; Dean, School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Nagaland University, Prof Pauline Alila; and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Medziphema, P James Swu.

The programme began with a welcome address by Head of Regional Station, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, H Kalita, who reiterated the mandate of KVKs in promoting sustainable farming practices at the grassroots level. Three scientific publications comprising technical bulletins and a newsletter were released by Advisor Yanthan during the meeting.

Mohanty highlighted the need for convergence among various departments to better serve farmers in Nagaland. Yanthan emphasised the importance of climate-resilient technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration for rural entrepreneurship development and empowerment of women-led self-help groups.

Officials from the School of Agricultural Sciences and key line departments, including Agriculture (DAO), Horticulture (DHO), Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (Deputy CVO), Forestry (DFO) and Fisheries, participated in the meeting. 

Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR–KVK Dimapur, Phool Kumari, and Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR–KVK Kiphire, Lahar Jyoti Bordoloi, presented reports on the implementation of recommendations from the previous SAC meeting, achievements of the KVKs, and progress during 2025.

Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding), KVK Dimapur, Bendangla Imsong, along with Subject Matter Specialists of KVK Kiphire, outlined the achievements and proposed action plan for 2026, focusing on key developments and future strategies.

During the interactive session, officials from various departments underscored the critical role of KVKs in addressing farmers’ challenges through scientific interventions and stressed the need for interdepartmental collaboration to ensure a more inclusive and integrated approach to agricultural development in the region.
