ICAR-TSP project hosts career counselling at Nagaland University

Kohima, March 4 (MExN): A one-day Career Counselling Session was successfully conducted on February 28 under the ICAR–TSP (Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Tribal Sub-Plan) project titled “Development of Soft Skills, Professional Business and Entrepreneurial Skills to Enhance Employability among Students” at the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Nagaland University.

The programme aimed to equip students with essential knowledge on competitive examinations and diverse career pathways. The session was facilitated by Damaso Digital Solutions Pvt Ltd.

The project focuses on strengthening students’ soft skills, professional competencies, business understanding and entrepreneurial abilities, enabling them to become more employable, confident and prepared for future opportunities.

The project team highlighted that the career counselling initiative was not limited to preparing for competitive examinations, but also intended to help students recognize their potential and strategically plan their future careers.

The session was conducted by Shashank Dixit, an international trainer and renowned author.

During the session, he provided a comprehensive overview of various competitive examinations, beginning with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and extending to major sectors such as banking and financial services, defence services, railways, Staff Selection Commission (SSC), ICAR–ARS, FCI, IFFCO and other allied examinations.

He also discussed career opportunities in research organizations such as ISRO, DRDO and BARC, along with state civil services and teaching eligibility tests. The session provided students with valuable insights into multiple career avenues and the preparation strategies required to pursue them.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students actively engaged with the resource person and gained clarity on various aspects of competitive examination preparation and career planning.

The project is being implemented under the leadership of the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, with Prof. Akali Sema as coordinator, Dr Mary N. Odyuo, Associate Professor serving as the Principal Investigator (PI) and Dr Saurabh Sharma, Associate Professor; Dr Debika Nongmaithem, Assistant Professor; and Dr Sentirenla Jamir, Assistant Professor, serving as Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs).
