Iconic Events Week to honour Netaji from Jan 17-23

Dimapur, January 16 (MExN): An iconic events week is being held in honour of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and to remember his indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation, from January 17 to 23, as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. 

According to a DIPR report, it will start with programmes in Imphal, Manipur on January 17 and thereafter there will be events held in Kohima on January 18. After that, the events will be held at Haripura (Surat) in Gujarat on January 19, and thereafter in Cuttack, Orissa on January 20. On January 21, events are scheduled in Kolkata, West Bengal, and finally the Iconic Events Week will culminate on January 23, the 126th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where various programmes will be held.

In Nagaland, on the morning of January 18, there will be flag-hoisting ceremonies at Chesezu village and Ruzazho village in Phek district, the villagers of which fondly speak about Netaji along with INA personnel visiting their villages during the Second World War in April -May 1944 and staying there for some days. The flag-hoisting in Chesezu will be done by the Deputy Commissioner at 7:30 am, and in Ruzazho village by Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) at 9:00 am, it informed.

In Kohima, there will be a walkathon consisting of about 500 participants from NCC/NSS/NYKS, students of IG Academy, and also personnel from Assam Rifles which will start at 10 AM from Indira Gandhi Stadium and culminate in Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza. The volunteers will carry National Flags and banners on Netaji. At Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza there will be the unfurling of 126 flags followed by the pipe and brass band display by Nagaland Police and Assam Rifles. The bands will also play among others, tunes of INA songs.

In the afternoon, commencing from 12:00 noon there will be a painting and drawing competition on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Capital Cultural Hall, which will have participation from 126 school students from Kohima. At 4:30 PM at the same venue, a cultural programme in honour of Netaji will be organized. There will be cultural performances by TAFMA, and by the dance troupes from NEZCC in the tunes of INA songs. A documentary -‘Netaji in Nagaland’ by NEZCC will also be screened. All the participants in the painting and drawing competition held in the afternoon will be felicitated, along with the display of the best 15 paintings, the DIPR informed.
