IG Assam Rifles (North) visits Peren and Dimapur, reviews security and training initiatives

Peren, February 1 (MExN): The Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), Major General Harinder Singh Mavi, visited Tening in Peren district of Nagaland on January 31, reaffirming the force’s commitment to operational preparedness and community welfare.

During the visit, the Inspector General reviewed operational readiness and infrastructure and interacted with troops to assess effectiveness and morale. As part of a community outreach initiative, Maj Gen Mavi presented table tennis equipment to students of Heraka School, aimed at promoting sports culture, physical fitness, discipline and holistic development among the youth.

The initiative reflected Assam Rifles’ continued efforts to strengthen engagement with local communities through youth empowerment and nation-building programmes. The force reiterated its role as both a security provider and a partner in progress, fostering trust and cooperation with the people of the region. Known as the “Sentinels of the North East”, Assam Rifles continues to maintain its deep-rooted connect with local communities.

At the same time, he also visited the Drone Training Node at Jalukie in Peren district, highlighting the force’s focus on adopting emerging technologies to enhance operational preparedness.

During the visit, he was briefed on structured drone training modules and in-house fabrication capabilities developed at the node. The Inspector General observed live demonstrations and interacted with instructors and trainees, gaining insights into the integrated training model encompassing simulation, practical flying, repair and innovation.

Maj Gen Mavi commended the personnel for their professionalism, dedication and forward-looking approach, and lauded the innovative training initiatives undertaken at the facility.

Dimapur
The Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), visited the Assam Rifles Dimapur Sector from January 28 to January 31, and conducted a comprehensive review of operational readiness, administrative efficiency, welfare measures, civil–military interface and challenges faced by units under the sector.

The visit aimed at assessing the force’s preparedness to safeguard internal security and maintain stability in the strategically important North Eastern region. The Inspector General interacted with troops and lauded their professionalism, dedication and commitment.

Concluding the visit, he emphasised the need for heightened vigilance and robust civil–military cooperation to ensure sustained peace and security. He also reiterated Assam Rifles’ commitment to continued collaboration with local communities and the successful execution of future operations.
