Dimapur, January 25 (MExN): The Assam Rifles today rejected claims of the GPRN/NSCN that the security force “carried out torture to the Naga personnel.” The Inspector General of AR (North) reminded that charges from both the ‘NSCN-Khaplang and the NSCN-Khole itself say that the security forces have been partial to no group or in maintaining and overseeing security and law and order.’
A note from the IGAR (N) stated: “The statement by NSCN (Khole) that Assam Rifles have carried out torture to the Naga personnel is baseless and reflects the intention of the faction to undermine and hide their act of violation of CFGRs. The apprehension of both NSCN (Khole) and NSCN (Khaplang) cadre in recent past reflects the unbiased attitude of the security forces. Carrying of High Explosive contained Mortar Bombs by Identity Card holders is not justified or in consonance with stated peaceful intentions of the faction.”
The AR said the force has “upheld the law of the land” and has been operating to ensure that peace and tranquility in the state is maintained and no untoward incidence takes place. “While operating, utmost care is taken so that no Human Right violation occurs. It has also been an endeavor of Assam Rifles to cause minimum hardship to the common populace.”
The IGAR (N) stated that the underground factions have misused the facility of uninterrupted movement from designated camps, to “carry out unauthorized move” and concentrate armed cadres to resolve their inter-factions feuds. “… (These) have forced the security forces to block the route of ingress and egress from the designated camp. Even after repeated warning, factions have resorted to this unauthorized concentration. The faction is advised to desist from such baseless allegation and rein in their armed cadres violating the CFGRs,” the IGAR added.
