The International Human Rights Council (IHRC) Tuensang district organized a ‘solidarity programme for Aboi gang-rape victim’ with Eastern Naga Women Organization (ENWO) as the special invites to the programme at Lümtüm Kuh, Tuensang Town on July 6.
Speaking on rape awareness and victimization of rape-victims in the Naga society, Alemla Chang, Advisor of ENWO stated that the incompetency of articles for women’s right in Naga society are due to pressure from a different angle of the society and lamented that ‘true justice is not delivered to the victim despite several articles enshrined under the constitution for the protection of women.’
She also encouraged spread the awareness of violence against women and the hardship that a woman faces on a day-to-day basis at the grassroots level.
Addressing the event, IHRC Tuensang, president, B M Yanchu spoke about the value of women to society and how the advancement of technology has also contributed to the violence against women which was not known to the earlier Naga society. He strongly condemned the June 20 incident and assured to fight for justice for the minor victim.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Yangtsala Sangtam, IHRC Tuensang. Welcome speech was delivered by B Imlong Aku, joint secretary, IHRC Tuensang followed by reading of a Bible passage and silent prayer honoring the victim by B Yemlong Chaba, vice secretary, IHRC Nagaland and it culminated with benediction from Lakiumong Yimchunger, IHRC Tuensang.
