Dimapur is set to witness the launch of Illume—a Beauty Clinic and Academy providing cosmetic and semi-permanent makeup services that has captured the attention of the beauty industry.

Located at Half Nagarjan, Dimapur, Illume Beauty Clinic and Academy is passionate about helping clients improve their appearance and health through innovative beauty services.

Founder and proprietor Ayinla Chuba started out as a semi-permanent makeup artist in 2017, with the launch of ‘Brows and Lashes’ which specialised in semi-permanent makeup. Over the years, she built up a steady client base not just in Nagaland but across other North East states like Manipur, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, to name a few.

She went on to receive certification as an Aesthetician after completing training in Seoul, South Korea in 2019, and is now looking forward to the launch of her new venture,  Illume—Beauty Clinic and Academy.

The training programme
Talking about the launch project, Ayinla told The Morung Express that the Academy is a way of giving back to the community and contributing to the state economy. She noted that there are many people who spend a lot of money to go outside the state to get trained and also those who want to get trained but cannot afford the expenses. “I want to bridge the gap and provide training and certification here in Dimapur itself,” she maintained.

Along with this, the Academy will also provide training on how to start up and run a business in the beauty industry. It will be good opportunity for those who are interested in opening up their own businesses in this industry, she added.

According to Ayinla, the courses will be open to anyone and even healthcare professionals like doctors and nurses can take the classes and enhance their skills. Individuals who have completed the courses will also have easier access to imported beauty and cosmetic products and machineries as the Clinic has also tied up with registered and licensed suppliers, she added.

The soon-to-be-launched Academy will teach students the basics of semi-permanent makeup services like microblading, BB Glow, Lash enhancement, Scalp Micropigmentation, Micropigmentation of skin imperfections, as well as safety and hygiene practices, among others. The Clinic will cater to walk-in clients seeking any kind of skin treatment, hair restoration and other such skin and cosmetic treatments.

In terms of certification and training at the Academy, Ayinla informed that she has partnered Master Aesthetician and trainer Kim Donggyu from KSMP South Korea who is the Representative Master for India.

Master Kim is one of the most renowned Trainers when it comes to semi-permanent makeup and holds many responsibilities including being the ISPN, International Tatooist License Issuer; KSMP Master Class Certificate Issuer; and a Judge for the Korea national SMP Competition. He is also the publisher for the KSMP English Training Book and manufacturer of the All-in-one SMP Wireless Machine, among others.

Not just about moneymaking
While excited about the expansion of her business, Ayinla also noted that attitude towards her line of work were generally negative. Towards this, she reasoned that personal grooming and self care contribute not only towards outer appearances but also play a big part in boosting self-confidence and happiness. While some people may view going procedures like removing acne scars, pigmentation marks or other similar skin irregularities as being vain; for the person undergoing the procedure, it may be something that they are insecure about, and “If I can help even a single client to get rid of their insecurity through my work, then I am content,” she added.

“Earning a livelihood is certainly a big part of the business; however, even more than that, I make a conscious effort not to push unrealistic beauty standards for any of my clients,” she also emphasised.

Along these lines, Ayinla also noted that not all treatments work the same for every client. According to her, most people develop skin problems because of underlying health issues and it is important that those issues are identified and addressed. As such, Ayinla has enlisted the service of a dermatologist who will be available for consultations so that clients are better informed about what treatment or procedure would work best for them.

“As a business, it is obviously convenient and profitable for me to just keep recommending and performing expensive procedures. But that is not how I want to run my establishment,” she underscored. Besides helping others look and feel their best, it’s also about building personal bonds and trust with my clients, she added.

Emphasising on ethical business practices, Ayinla added, “It is because of this that I have been able to retain the same clients who used to come to me in 2017, and I hope it will continue for a long time.”

Illume—Beauty Clinic and Academy is located at Peheile Place, 2nd Floor, Kuda village, Half Nagarjan, Dimapur and will be launched on July 11.
