Dimapur, November 20 (MExN): In an emergency meeting on November 17, the Konyak civil society decided on a number of ILP safeguards, including one against issuing fresh trade licenses to non-locals. The Konyak Student’s Union – the Konyak Nyupuh Shuko Khong – and the Mon Town Council had met at the DC’s Conference Hall.
A note from the KSU ILP cell informed that the meeting had decided on ILP being renewed basing on the earlier KSU Joint Representation submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Mon on August 13 last year, and the verification report of the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj, Assam, in August 30 this year. ILP holders are also to produce relevant documents to the authority in concern and to the Konyak Student’s Union. Failing this, the defaulting persons (ILP Holders) will have to leave Mon district, the note warned.
“It is also decided that the district administration should stop the issue of fresh ILP. It has been resolved that the guarantor(s)/house owner(s) should check all the ILP relevant documents of the tenants before giving house rent,” the KSU stated in the note from its ILP cell secretary, T B Chihba Konyak. The meeting also authorised the MTC not to issue fresh trade licenses to non-locals and to fix a rate of essential commodities with immediate effect.
All ILP holders are directed to abide by the resolutions to avoid “untoward circumstances,” the KSU stated, further requesting the district administration, law enforcing agencies and the public, to cooperate with the Union in their drive towards monitoring the same.
