Nagaland is expected to witness increased rainfall in the coming days, with a likelihood of “heavy to very heavy” downpour at isolated places on October 2, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD’s All India Weather Forecast Bulletin, issued on Sunday evening, indicated that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely at isolated locations across Nagaland on September 29.
Rainfall intensity is expected to increase on September 30 and October 1, with “heavy rainfall” predicted at isolated places.

The peak is anticipated on October 2, when the bulletin stated: “Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.”

For Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, “very heavy rainfall” is expected in the range of 12–20 cm on October 2.

Meanwhile, the IMD also cautioned of “extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) at isolated places” over north Konkan and north Madhya Maharashtra on September 28, and over south Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch on September 29.

The expected impact of the heavy downpour includes waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas and along riverbanks, as well as localized, short-term disruption to services such as water and electricity, and closure of roads crossing low-water bridges. Major traffic disruption, risk to old or poorly maintained structures, and falling trees are also likely.

The IMD advised regulating traffic effectively and taking precautionary measures to ensure public safety. Residents in affected areas are urged to limit movement as much as possible and take necessary steps to protect life and property.

However, the intensity of rain is likely to decline to only ‘Heavy Rainfall’ on October 3 and no alert for the next day.
