IMFL worth 21 lakhs destroyed in Kohima

Kohima: In view of liquor prohibition in force in the State, the district Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition Kohima conducted IMFL destruction worth 21 lakhs on May 20 at KMC dump Meriama in the presence of destruction board constituted by the Commissioner of Excise.

A total f 8498 bottles of 750ml IMFL, 140 bottles of 375ml IMFL, 8 bottles of 275ml IMFL, 299 bottles of 180ml IMFL, 2516 bottles of 650 ml beer, 16,628 numbers of can beer 500ml were destroyed. The monetary value of the destroyed items stands roughly at 21 lakhs, informed a press release issued by Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition Kohima, Katoho Sumi.

The destruction board committee comprises of the Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition Kohima as chairman, representatives of district administration, Superintendent of Police and KMC as members.

The Superintendent said, “Destruction of this nature taking place from time to time shows that we as enforcing agent are fighting a losing liquor battle, since banned liquor is abundantly available even after seizures are made significantly. The efforts of the enforcing agencies appear to be futile exercise, unless cooperation is extended from all quarters to fight this social evil of alcohol, which has become a menace to this Christian society of ours.”
