DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 4 (MExN): Imliben Lemtur, proprietor of Monalisa Business Solutions, Dimapur, Nagaland was selected from north east and eastern India as one of the participant out of four from India for the International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP) along with Arun Yellamaty from Hyderabad, Aniket Doegar from Shimla and Radhika Ganesh from Chennai.

This programme is sponsored by the US Department of State for a 3-week group project entitled "Youth and Civic Engagement – Youth Activism”, and commenced from Washington DC, the US Capital and will be visiting multiple states in the United States for the programme that started on November 26.

IVLP is sponsored by the US Department of State and is one of the US Government's most prestigious professional exchange programmes for foreign opinion leaders. The 3-week group project entitled "Youth and Civic Engagement – Youth Activism", consists of participants from India and Pakistan. This programme will highlight US efforts to reach out to youth populations to promote economic growth and stable democratic institutions.

Participants in the three-week visit will examine strategies to facilitate youth political participation, small business development, civil society expansion and grassroots engagement. Meetings, site visits and workshops will explore best practices in fostering alliances, leadership development, strategic planning, business innovation, advocacy, capitalizing on technology and social media, public outreach and engaging volunteer networks.

“I am excited about this new journey filled with learnings, exposure, and knowledge exchange,” said Imliben from Nagaland. 

The project will reach out to the respective youth populations to promote economic growth, reinforce civil society, reduce unemployment, stabilize democratic institutions, and boost cross-border understanding.

Imliben Lemtur is also currently working on a transboundary project supported and funded by the Department of State, Government of US. It aims to engage youths from India, Bangladesh and Bhutan to conserve the two strategic biospheres of South Asia i.e. Sunderbans and Manas in the face of climate change which will emphasize on reducing plastic waste. It was officially launched on November 28, at Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh. The representatives also met ambassadors at the Indian embassy in the US.

Many world-renowned leaders were once participants in the IVLP, including Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair, PM of the United Kingdom; Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France; Felipe Calderon of Mexico; FW De Klerk of South Africa; Indira Gandhi, PM of India; and Anwar Sadat of Egypt.
