When you decide to send your child for higher studies away from you, when your child gets through in the final examination, when the time approaches to send away your child, don’t take hasty/emotional decisions. Your intention of sending your child away might be for brighter education, best experience and future career may turn out to be the worst future for them if you are not careful. DOs
1. Think twice before you send your child
2. Make sure you are familiar with the place where you intend to send your child
3. Know which institution you are sending your child to
4. Does the institution have proper management?
5. Which area of discipline is your child interested in?
6. Does the institute offer your concerned discipline?
7. Is the institute permanently established?
8. Is the institution affiliated/recognized by a genuine university?
9. On what kind of locality and atmosphere is the institution set?
10. If possible, drop your child to the institution personally; otherwise send a trusted person to accompany your child and to observe the institution.
11. Inquire about the institution personally, not through media/publicity.
12. What kind of accommodation does the institute provide?
13. Who are those involved in administrations/management?
14. Is the fee structure reasonable comparatively?
15. Does the institute provide quality education and qualified faculty?
DON’Ts
1. Never be easily carried away by the publicity of the institutions. (Be realistic)
2. Don’t look simply at the blueprint, but the fact.
3. Never be carried away by the flattering words of your child’s friends.
4. Don’t be over ambitious about sending your child away (It’s a life risk).
5. Never pretend to be “I’ve heard about it”; check it personally.
6. Don’t be convinced by city atmosphere and experience. (Be rational)
7. Never allow your child to stay away from a local guardian.
8. Don’t select an unknown person to be the local guardian of your child. (Never compromise with your child in this matter)
9. Never compromise with your child for their luxury/lifestyle while they are under certain institution. It might turn out to be costly in the future.
